Power supply fuels highland vegetable harvest in Dingxi

Fields of celery, zucchini, and cabbage stretched across the landscape at the highland summer vegetable base in Neiguanying village in Dingxi's Anding district, Gansu province. Farmers busily harvested, sorted, and packed produce, creating a lively harvest scene.

State Grid Dingxi Power Supply Company has extended its services to farmlands and cold storage facilities, ensuring reliable electricity throughout the vegetable supply chain and boosting farmers' incomes.

Anding district's large diurnal temperature variation and abundant sunshine yield high‑quality summer vegetables which are highly sought after in southern markets.

This year, the vegetable planting area reached 25,000 mu (1,666.67 hectares), serving as a key income source for locals. Every stage — field irrigation, machinery operation, pre‑cooling, storage, and preservation — depends on stable power.

A villager from Neiguanying, who grew 15 mu of loose‑leaf lettuce and cabbage, said that thanks to ample rainfall, reliable electricity, and good field management, the crops were thriving and would likely fetch a good price.

To secure uninterrupted power, the company formed dedicated service teams that carried out thorough inspections in major planting areas. They checked irrigation lines and wellhead substations, using both manual patrols and drones to spot aging wires and overloaded equipment, while giving on‑site safety guidance to farmers, thus eliminating risks and ensuring steady agricultural power.

In the past, peak harvest season in July and August experienced heavy losses due to high temperatures and spoilage. Now, thanks to rapid cold‑chain development, 672 vegetable storage rooms have been built, adding 20,000 cubic meters of new capacity and raising the cold‑chain circulation rate to 90 percent, effectively preserving freshness.

In response, the company opened a green channel for cold‑storage facilities and cooperatives, actively addressing power needs and offering free equipment checks to ensure 24‑hour refrigeration and smooth loading lines.

The head of a local vegetable cooperative said that his cold storage now ships over 60 tons daily and that off‑peak sales have reduced losses. Dependable power allows rapid cooling and constant‑temperature storage, significantly cutting spoilage and solving sales difficulties.

To date, Anding district has produced 300,000 metric tons of highland summer vegetables, generating about one billion yuan (148.31 million) in revenue, with per‑capita income from vegetables reaching roughly 1,362 yuan.

The district has achieved full‑chain development from standardized seedling cultivation and eco‑friendly farming to cold‑chain logistics and branded exports.

State Grid Dingxi will continue monitoring power demand, refining end‑to‑end services from fields to cold storage, and optimizing support to raise the quality and efficiency of the highland vegetable industry, using reliable electricity to support rural vitalization.
