State Grid Zhongwei helps boost market expansion and income growth of selenium sand melon industry
The closing event of the national key city touring promotion campaign for Zhongwei (city) Selenium Sand Melons was held in Yinchuan on July 25, marking the upcoming shipment of authentic Zhongwei Selenium Sand Melons to numerous cities nationwide. Taking proactive steps and providing targeted services for major selenium sand melon planting areas, State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Co (State Grid Zhongwei) guarantees power supply for the whole industrial chain, including melon irrigation, sorting and warehousing, fueling the high-quality development and income growth of the industry with stable power.
To meet the irrigation power demand of core planting areas such as Xiangshan township and Xingren town, the company planned rural power grid upgrading and renovation projects well in advance. It newly built or renovated 47 transformer stations, installed and replaced 60 transformers, erected 229 utility poles, laid 6.1 kilometers of wires, and constructed three new 10-kilovolt power lines. All construction work was completed before the peak irrigation season, consolidating the power supply infrastructure for melon growing areas and ensuring stable water pumping for hundreds of hectares of melon fields.
Meanwhile, the company launched a customized channel for agricultural power users, simplifying installation procedures and shortening processing cycles. It efficiently completed power installation applications for five high-standard, eco-friendly and intelligent ten-thousand-mu (around 666.67 hectares) demonstration planting bases in Xiangshan and Xingren.
The stable power supply is crucial for melon variety trials and dense planting technology optimization, supporting the upgrading of small-sized, high-quality melons that better cater to household consumer markets.
Before the peak production and sales season, the company’s service team took the initiative to go deep into farmlands to visit melon growers, large sorting cooperatives and cold storage warehouses, and conduct thorough surveys on power consumption demands. Special safety electricity inspections were carried out simultaneously: technicians repaired aging power lines, standardized wiring on-site, and explained electricity safety precautions during high temperatures to melon farmers and operators to secure the steady power supply for every production link. Operation and maintenance staff members increased special line patrols, set up defect ledgers and implemented closed-loop rectification to safeguard the major power transmission lines serving selenium sand melon planting zones.
The planting area of Zhongwei selenium sand melons has reached about 271,500 mu this year, with an expected total output exceeding 750,000 metric tons, showing robust industrial development. Sufficient and reliable electricity runs through the entire industrial chain covering field planting, sorting, cold storage and product upgrading, laying a solid foundation for the national expansion of the "Zhongwei" brand selenium sand melons.
State Grid Zhongwei will further advance the village-grid co-construction service model, and intensify patrol inspections of agricultural transformer stations and power lines. With reliable and efficient power services, the company will support the continued growth of the local selenium-rich sand melon industry, helping melons grown on sandy land reach markets across the country while providing a strong foundation for rural vitalization.
