State Grid Jiaxing makes emergency response preparations as Bavi approaches
As Super Typhoon Bavi, the ninth typhoon of the year, approaches China's eastern coast, State Grid Jiaxing Power Supply Company has ramped up emergency measures to safeguard grid stability.
Workers performed live-line maintenance on the 220‑kilovolt Hongshan Line on July 8. They installed suspension clamp nuts and cotter pins without interrupting power, fixing potential hazards and reinforcing the line's ability to withstand gale‑force winds.
Following a proactive prevention strategy, the repairs strengthened the transmission infrastructure while keeping electricity flowing to customers.
With Bavi now within the 48‑hour warning zone, the company activated its grid‑based emergency command system. Local power stations serve as operational hubs, coordinating with substations, inspection teams, and construction managers to form 36 frontline response units.
State Grid Jiaxing also revised grid operation plans, updated municipal and county‑level emergency protocols, and introduced risk controls for high‑vulnerability sections of the network.
A dedicated distribution inspection team has examined all 537 underground power rooms in Jiaxing. An emergency manual for typhoon and flood response has been issued, identifying 13 priority user categories — including those in low‑lying, flood‑prone areas and facilities providing essential public services.
In coordination with local authorities, the company supports power protection for five major southbound drainage projects and 94 urban flood‑control initiatives.
Construction sites have been ordered to reinforce temporary shelters and heavy equipment, while photovoltaic stations and electric‑vehicle charging points have undergone inspections to reduce risks of falling debris and electrical leakage during the storm.
Emergency repair crews, equipment, and supplies are now on standby, ready to respond swiftly to any outages or equipment failures.
According to State Grid Jiaxing, it will continue to refine its emergency plans, boost repair capabilities, and closely track the typhoon's trajectory. The goal is to maintain stable, reliable power supplies throughout both the typhoon season and the peak summer demand period.
