State Grid Fuyang builds flood defenses for power lines

Updated:2026-07-09

To ensure a reliable power supply for flood control efforts along the Huaihe River, members of the Wanmei service team from State Grid Fuyang Power Supply Company (State Grid Fuyang) have conducted special equipment inspections on power facilities for drainage pumping stations in Gengpeng town, Yingshang county, Fuyang city.

They have also carried out special line patrols, corridor obstacle clearance and the closed-loop rectification of hidden dangers to lay a solid groundwork for stable power supply during flood seasons.

Low-lying farmlands stretch across Gengpeng, where various drainage pumping stations serve as core facilities for farmland drainage and floodwater logging prevention. Based on local flood characteristics, power staff members in the jurisdiction compiled inspection checklists in advance to conduct full-coverage surveys on large, medium and village-level small pumping stations.

Workers inspected the operating conditions of distribution transformers, control cabinets, water pump units, lightning protection grounding facilities and residual current devices one by one. They patrolled power supply lines for pumping stations on foot, trimmed overgrown tree branches within power line corridors in a timely manner, and verified the implementation of waterproof and seepage-proof measures, as well as anti-animal sealing in power distribution rooms.

For on-site problems including aging lines, loose wiring and damp or damaged equipment, workers recorded any outstanding issues to establish a hidden danger ledger. Minor faults were rectified on the spot. For equipment requiring complex renovations, designated personnel were assigned with clear deadlines for rectification.

During inspections, staff members gave on-site lectures to pumping station attendants on equipment operation standards in rainy weather, emergency response procedures for sudden malfunctions and hands-on electric shock first-aid skills, improving their on-site emergency handling capabilities.

Based on current flood control and power guarantee needs, State Grid Fuyang implemented unified scheduling and arranged grassroots branches to advance multiple flood control power guarantee tasks at the same time. It also carried out renovation work to clear obstacles along line corridors. Operation and maintenance teams conducted combined manual and drone patrols on high- and low-voltage power lines by sections, removing overgrown trees and bamboo along the routes to lower risks of short circuits and tripping caused by strong winds and heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the company intensified inspections on temporary lighting power lines along dykes and household electrical equipment on village mounds, standardized safety control over temporary power construction, and eliminated water-related power hazards at the source. It fully stocked flood control repair materials, integrated manpower from power supply stations and outsourced construction teams to form emergency repair squads, established cross-regional support mechanisms, and maintained round-the-clock duty rosters on a regular basis.

The company also coordinated with county, township and water conservancy authorities to build a joint flood control linkage mechanism, sharing rainfall and flood data, clarifying the power protection responsibilities of all parties, and jointly addressing power emergencies at drainage pumping stations.

On top of this, it regularly disseminated flood season safe electricity usage tips via village broadcast systems and villagers’ WeChat groups to guide residents to use electricity safely and take scientific evacuation measures.

State Grid Fuyang will further increase the frequency of inspections of equipment in key areas, and maintain the dynamic tracking and rectification of hidden dangers at critical locations including drainage pumping stations and dykes along the Huaihe River.
