Taizhou drives mountain wind power upgrades for green transition
Workers from State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company carried out an upgrade in Tiantai county on June 22 to secure power supply for a wind farm retrofit project.
The upgrade, the first of its kind in Taizhou, replaces 14 780‑kW turbines with seven 5‑MW high‑efficiency units and seven 5,500‑kVA transformers, boosting total installed capacity from 10.92 MW to 35 MW.
The workers also overhauled the 35‑kV collection lines, transmission lines, and switching station. The work will be completed in August, boosting power capacity to about 89.95 million kWh annually, with around 2,570 utilization hours.
This will cut standard coal use by 27,000 metric tons, carbon dioxide by 74,000 tons, particulate matter by 2 tons, sulfur dioxide by 9 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 14 tons each year — equivalent to planting 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares) of broadleaf forest.
Beyond clean energy gains, the wind farm will become a scenic landmark alongside alpine tea plantations, cherry blossoms, and cloud seas, boosting local cultural tourism. The project is part of Zhejiang province's new energy equipment renewal and green low‑carbon efficiency initiative.

Since construction began last March, State Grid Taizhou has provided full‑process support to ensure a smooth energy transmission.
Early on, the company set up a dedicated team on site, held advance consultations with the developer, and helped process right‑of‑way permits and crop compensation.
During equipment transport, it tailored solutions for oversized turbine components and insufficient road clearance, including relocating distribution lines and transferring loads in advance to ensure unobstructed passage.
Throughout the build, the company tracked planning, progress, and grid‑connection schedules, while proactively arranging energy storage and flexible dispatch to improve wind power accommodation.

The project has now entered the transformer installation and cable-laying stage. State Grid Taizhou continues to support construction and prepare for grid connection, helping ensure the wind farm begins operating on schedule while supporting the region's low-carbon transition.
