The Jintan live-line working team of State Grid Changzhou Power Supply Co (State Grid Changzhou) completed a live-line defect elimination operation to address heating damage on a knife switch of the 10-kilowatt (kV) Qingchun Line on May 15. The team removed the potential hazard, safeguarding the stable operation of the power grid with minimal or no power disruption, and ensuring reliable electricity supply for both industrial production and residential users within the line's coverage area.

Operation and maintenance personnel received a user report that the side-phase knife switch terminal on Pole No 11 of the Xinrong Paper Industry Branch Line of the 10kV Qingchun Line had broken down due to heating and arcing, posing a further risk of failure. As it was a critical period for local industrial production, traditional power outage repairs would have impacted normal electricity usage in multiple surrounding enterprises and residential areas.

To minimize disruption, the live-line working team assembled overnight and arrived at the site. Using emergency lighting and an insulated bucket truck, they completed a series of tasks including insulation shielding, replacement of the heated knife switch, and reconnection of leads. The defect elimination was carried out without users perceiving any power interruption, and the equipment was restored to healthy operation before dawn.

This repair is a typical example of State Grid Changzhou's continuous efforts to promote outage-free distribution network operations. According to statistics, in the first quarter of this year alone, more than 1,200 live operations and over 200 power generation operations were completed in the Jintan area. Meanwhile, the company has adopted technologies to further enhance the efficiency of live-line work. The principle of "live work whenever possible, no outage whenever avoidable" is becoming the norm in power supply services, with an increasing number of repairs and defect elimination tasks being carried out without users even noticing, supporting local economic development and safeguarding residential electricity needs.

State Grid Changzhou will further expand its live-line working teams, strengthen its professional capabilities, and intensify technological innovation in outage-free operations. By providing higher power supply reliability and a better business environment, the company aims to offer robust power support for high-quality local development.
