Cross-regional power link boosts Yangtze River Delta integration

A new cross-provincial power distribution link connecting Jiaxing in Zhejiang province and Suzhou in Jiangsu province has commenced operation, further strengthening energy integration in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Located in Yaque village of Xitang town at the border of Jiashan county and Wujiang district, the project achieved physical interconnection between the 10-kilovolt Zhonghe line in Jiashan and the 10-kilovolt Jiecheng line in Wujiang through the precise docking of liaison cables. It marks the completion of the second interconnected distribution line between the two regions.

The new link comes as the Yangtze River Delta Qingpu-Wujiang-Jiashan High-tech Industrial Development Zone — China’s first cross-provincial high-tech industrial development zone — was officially renamed in January this year. A series of strategic emerging industries are expected to take shape around the Fenhu Lake area, bringing growing demand for a reliable electricity supply.

According to the State Grid Jiaxing Power Supply Co (State Grid Jiaxing), the project involved the installation of four spans of new conductors totaling 210 meters, the relocation of one distribution transformer and the addition of two quantum switches. During construction, the company coordinated cross-regional operations, equipment commissioning and on-site support to ensure efficient and safe project delivery.

The new interconnection line helps address bottlenecks in power transfer capacity and substation coordination at the edges of the two regional grids. In addition, it strengthens mutual power support capabilities and improves grid reliability for the integrated development zone.

Beyond improving power supply, the interconnected grid is expected to better support the development and utilization of renewable energy facilities, including photovoltaic and energy storage systems. The project will facilitate renewable energy integration, cross-regional power dispatching and load balancing, helping to improve local green electricity consumption and promote the higher-quality development of the new energy industry.

As industrial integration in the Yangtze River Delta region deepens, cross-regional power infrastructure is gradually breaking down traditional administrative boundaries. What was once a disconnected provincial border is becoming an increasingly unified energy network serving residents and businesses across the region.

During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), State Grid Jiaxing will continue advancing grid construction, supporting the green transition and optimizing business services to further promote the integrated power development in the Yangtze River Delta demonstration zone.
