Jiaxing's molten salt energy storage demonstration project enters stable operation
The first molten salt energy storage demonstration project of its kind in Jiaxing has entered stable operation, marking a significant step forward for the city's energy transition. The initial phase of operation recently recorded daily electricity consumption exceeding 140,000 kilowatt-hours.
This key provincial demonstration project features the country's first application of high-voltage magnetic induction heating equipment.
The system uses green electricity to store energy by heating molten salt during off-peak hours. During peak demand, the stored heat generates steam to drive a turbine and produce electricity.
According to State Grid Jiaxing Power Supply Company, the system played a crucial role in the project's grid connection and commissioning. Once fully operational, the project is expected to absorb about 236 million kilowatt-hours of off-peak electricity annually.
It will supply approximately 254,000 metric tons of green steam to local industries each year, saving an estimated 17,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon emissions by around 33,000 tons.
The company added that it will leverage the project to accelerate the construction of supporting power grid infrastructure and explore solutions for smart, zero-carbon industrial parks.
