Amid a cold wave, technicians from State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Company conducted a special inspection of the newly operational 220-kV Jingwei Substation in the Shaoxing Binhai Industrial Zone on Jan 20, ensuring reliable power supply for textile printing and dyeing enterprises.

In recent years, Shaoxing has relocated decentralized printing and dyeing enterprises to the Binhai Industrial Zone, driving the green, intensive, and efficient transformation of this traditional industry. This optimization has rapidly increased electricity demand in the region.

In 2025, electricity consumption in Shaoxing's textile printing and dyeing industry reached 10.667 billion kWh, with supporting sectors like textile apparel and chemical fiber manufacturing seeing consumption growth of 20.88 percent and 20.38 percent, respectively.

Facing challenges presented by industrial agglomeration, high-energy users, and dedicated-line demands, the power company proactively planned grid construction to meet the industrial zone's development needs.

With the commissioning of the 220-kV Jingwei Substation, the power grid framework in Binhai is now complete. The zone now has 18 substations with a total capacity of 6,670 MVA, forming a robust 220-kV dual-ring network that strengthens the foundation for a world-class modern textile cluster.

Built between June 2024 and December 2025 with an investment of approximately 245 million yuan ($35.18 million), the Jingwei Substation alleviates pressure on existing substations such as Changzheng and Ma'an.

Zhu Mingjiang, project manager at the company's construction department, said that it significantly reduces load rates on existing equipment, mitigates overload risks, and improves overall power supply reliability.

During construction, the team used phased commissioning and 24-hour shifts to cut commissioning and debugging time by 15 percent. Modular installation and enhanced safety measures addressed site constraints, completely eliminating accidents and achieving one-time equipment approval.

Meng Fansheng, deputy station master of the Sanggang Central Control Station, said that the substation uses a sulfur hexafluoride and nitrogen gas mixture as insulation to reduce greenhouse emissions and features an integrated smart monitoring system for fire safety and security, raising operational intelligence.

Looking ahead, State Grid Shaoxing will continue to advance key grid projects, including expanding the 500-kV Guyue Substation and building the 220-kV Qisheng Substation.

With a stronger grid and enhanced services, the company is committed to ensuring reliable power for Shaoxing's high-quality economic and social development.
