Zhumadian ensures reliable power to protect winter vegetable supply

Across winter planting bases in Xincai county, Zhumadian, Henan province, the local power supply company is strengthening the electrical safety net in preparation for winter.

As the first cold wave hits, autumn-winter vegetables enter their critical growth window. Greenhouse climate control, drip irrigation and supplemental-lighting systems now determine yields. To protect the "vegetable basket" of the people, the utility has paired each major grower — starting with the Zhousi Tomato Base — with a dedicated account manager. Mobile crews equipped with infrared thermometers and clamp meters fan out along the rows, carrying out line-by-line checks of distribution boxes, feeders and rolling-screen motors. Ageing conductors, loose joints and exposed sockets that thrive in high humidity are replaced on the spot, keeping the equipment inventory at "zero-fault" status.

"Wipe moisture off junctions every few days and never switch off the leakage breaker," technicians remind farmers as they work, explaining safety rules as simply as possible, handing out illustrated leaflets, and demonstrating correct start-up and shut-down procedures. For new loads, a green channel slashes connection lead-times, while smart-monitoring dashboards track demand round the clock, flagging any risk before it bites.

A 24-hour emergency response team and trailer-mounted generators stand ready to isolate and repair faults within minutes. Through an online and offline mesh, grid managers answer queries and book services via WeChat, letting growers stay in the greenhouse and out of queues.

Reliable electricity keeps temperatures — and tomatoes — exactly where they should be. Inside Zhousi's glowing tunnels, scarlet fruit hangs in heavy clusters, proof that the winter "vegetable basket" is in safe hands.
