State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company: Overnight effort made to complete cross-railway conductor and ground wire removal
State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company safely removed the 110-kilovolt Jiuqing 754 line's conductors and ground wires crossing over the railway at 3:00 am on Nov 20.
The operation was classified as a level three operational risk due to the high-density rail traffic beneath the crossing section. Any incident such as tower collapse or wire breakage could severely disrupt railway operations, making the task both technically challenging and high-risk. Moreover, the work had to be carried out within a tight two-hour railway service suspension window — from 1:00 am to 3:00 am between Nov 19 and 20 — placing extreme demands on construction coordination, process sequencing, and safety control.
To ensure smooth execution, the Transmission Operation and Inspection Center of State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company rigorously applied the "plan before implement" approach. This included preliminary site surveys and comprehensive risk assessments. Given the complex crossing environment and multiple intersecting lines, the company developed a detailed and specialized construction plan, which underwent multiple rounds of expert review and validation. Additionally, the company collaborated closely with relevant railway authorities, submitting a weekly supervision plan to the Xuzhou Maintenance Section seven days in advance, and confirming the daily plan four days ahead with the Maintenance and Power Supply Sections, ensuring full readiness for the work during the designated railway suspension period.
During the operation, the company deployed a truck crane on each side of the crossing — north of the Longhai Railway and south of the Tongshan Connecting Line. Because access to the Xulan High-Speed Rail lines was blocked and the overhead contact system experienced a synchronized power outage, the team used a basket carriage to assist in the cutting and removal of the conductors and ground wires. Throughout the process, strict protection measures for railway facilities were maintained, ensuring close coordination and safe, orderly progress across all stages.
State Grid Xuzhou has comprehensively advanced joint-inspection tours, infrared thermography surveys, and documentation management for line sections involving "crossings over railways, roads, and other lines". These efforts have effectively enhanced the safety and stability of the regional power grid, providing reliable power support for the smooth operation of key railway arteries.
