At the installation site of the 10-kilovolt Dianhua Line in Jiashan county, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, technicians from State Grid Jiaxing Power Supply Company recently used drones to carry out non-intrusive safety inspections. The approach has improved inspection efficiency by 50 percent compared with traditional methods.

The thorough integration of artificial intelligence and safety management has become a key driver for modernizing safety governance in the power industry. State Grid Jiaxing is steadily advancing its AI-powered safety management initiative, accelerating the transformation and upgrading of power safety production, and establishing a new model of intelligent safety supervision and on-site control.

"Safety supervision is a critical part of ensuring safe power operations. Our goal is to integrate AI technologies into the entire safety supervision process," an expert explained during a training session on the company's AI Intelligent Inspection Center system, where participants learned about the system's development.

Addressing the challenges of dispersed work sites and hidden operational risks, State Grid Jiaxing has built its AI Intelligent Inspection Center on top of its safety control platform. The system enables full-process inspection coverage and automated risk assessment. The company has also developed intelligent vests, AI panoramic monitoring devices, and smart safety harnesses — integrated tools equipped with multiple sensing and interaction functions that provide comprehensive monitoring from various angles. These devices communicate via LORA technology to prevent several common safety violations.

Since the launch of the initiative, the system has automatically inspected 1,370 high-risk and special-operation worksites. Remote video monitoring has helped increase the detection rate of violations by 35 percent. Intelligent equipment has been deployed nearly 100 times across multiple departments, successfully preventing 13 cases of serious potential violations and operational risks.

The new model is helping State Grid Jiaxing establish an intelligent safety management framework featuring "proactive prevention before incidents, real-time correction during operations, and evaluative improvement afterward". This marks a significant shift from manpower-based supervision to technology-driven management, and from passive containment to intelligent governance.
