The Xiaoshi Island area in Weihai has gone from a quiet, underdeveloped island to a thriving cultural tourism hotspot. This change results from a comprehensive urban renewal project that combines advanced management strategies with modern design, setting a new standard for coastal tourism development.

Recognized as a provincial model for urban renewal, the project has revitalized the island by focusing on both infrastructure and community engagement. Architectural upgrades have modernized aging buildings, seamlessly blending them with the island's natural beauty, including mountains and coastline.

Key infrastructure improvements have significantly enhanced the visitor experience. A new 565-space parking lot and upgraded utilities, including water, electricity, gas, and heating, have been added to accommodate the growing number of locals and tourists.

The project also introduced a variety of cultural and leisure offerings, such as themed homestays, fine dining restaurants, trendy coffee shops, night markets, and cultural bookstores. These new attractions have created a lively atmosphere, turning the island into a sought-after destination for tourists seeking both natural beauty and modern amenities.

The success of the Xiaoshi Island's transformation is driven by a collaborative approach that involves local businesses, residents, and tourists. Combining government guidance with market-driven operations and professional management, the island has become a model of sustainable, community-focused tourism development.

Today, Xiaoshi Island is a key destination in Weihai's coastal tourism sector and a prime example of how thoughtful urban renewal can revitalize a community. With over 17 million visitors expected annually, the island is poised to become a long-term success story in the tourism industry. (Edited by Hu Kaili)
