State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company applies AI proximity warning device to ensure peak winter power supply
State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company successfully completed an overhead maintenance task near live equipment without a power outage by utilizing the "AI Proximity Warning Device" on Oct 12 at the Jurong 110 kV Tingzi Substation in Jurong, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province.
By harnessing AI visual recognition and mechanical intelligence linkage, this system has cut a traditional two-hour, outage-required operation down to just 25 minutes. This resulted in an 80 percent increase in maintenance efficiency and completely eliminated exposure to high-risk operations, allowing for safer and more stable operation of grid equipment during the peak winter power supply period.
The newly deployed "AI Proximity Warning Device" innovatively achieves intelligent closed-loop management of warning and control. It uses AI visual analysis technology to identify in real-time the spatial relationships between personnel, tools and equipment, and live components, accurately judging safety distances with centimeter-level precision. When the system detects an operational target entering a warning zone, it automatically slows down the equipment's movement. If a target enters a high-risk zone, the system immediately halts the equipment's action. The entire process involves fully autonomous judgment without manual intervention, truly realizing whole-process intelligent protection from intelligent identification to automatic warning and active control. The device also features one-click modeling, capable of completing a 3D model of the work environment within two seconds. It supports multi-target simultaneous tracking and can display the monitoring feed in real-time through a 3D visualization interface, providing operators with comprehensive, multi-angle situational safety awareness.
Since the pilot application of this AI device, State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company has deployed it at six substations, carrying out a total of 10 high-risk proximity electrical operations, with the mechanical intelligent response achieving a 100 percent accuracy rate. It has provided crucial technical support for the grid's peak winter power supply efforts.
