Weihai company launches Shandong's first 100-megapixel camera production line
Weihai-based Weihai United Imaging has officially launched Shandong's first 100-megapixel Chip-on-Board (COB) camera production line in Weihai Nanhai New Area, marking a major step forward in the province's high-end optoelectronic manufacturing capabilities.
As one of China's leading innovators in visual modules and intelligent manufacturing, the company has made remarkable progress in just seven years. Its camera modules and imaging systems are widely used in smartphones and smart devices, serving major brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Honor, Samsung, and ZTE.
The new facility represents a 200-million-yuan ($28.1-million) investment and features a Class 100 cleanroom equipped with cutting-edge equipment from international leaders such as ASML. Designed with 10 fully automated COB packaging lines — each capable of being managed by a single operator — the production system sets a new benchmark for precision, efficiency, and automation in the imaging sector. Five lines are already operational, with the second phase currently underway.
At full capacity, the project's annual output will reach 95 million high-pixel camera modules, raising the company's total production value from 750 million yuan to 2 billion yuan — a 167 percent increase. The upgraded technology also expands the company's reach into advanced applications, including machine vision, autonomous driving, smart education, medical imaging, and industrial recognition.
In addition to the new COB production line, Weihai United Imaging continues to strengthen its mature Chip-on-Module (COM) and Chip-Scale Packaging (CSP) technologies, operating 24 additional production lines to serve a wide range of visual and imaging applications. With this expansion, Weihai United Imaging is positioning itself at the forefront of China's intelligent optics industry, powering innovation across sectors and reinforcing Weihai's reputation as a hub for high-end manufacturing.
