State Grid Xuzhou ensures uninterrupted power supply
The Tashan Power Supply Office of State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company recently organized for its staff to carry out inspection work in Penglou village despite prevailing fog.
Treading on slippery roads, they checked each utility pole for potential hazards — striving to ensure the safe and stable operation of power line equipment under complex weather conditions.
According to the latest monitoring by the meteorological department, the Xuzhou Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow fog warning at 10:00 pm on Sept 27.
Dense fog with visibility below 500 meters was observed in parts of Gulou, Yunlong, Quanshan and other districts and counties across the city.
Starting Sept 28, a prolonged period of rainfall was predicted, with light rain during the day turning to moderate rain at night. Temperatures will remain between 19 C and 25 C, with air humidity reaching up to 99 percent.
Persistent heavy fog can easily reduce the insulation performance of power lines and combined with rainfall, it may lead to short-circuit faults in equipment, posing a dual challenge to the safe operation of the power grid.
To mitigate the adverse effects of the fog and rain, State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company activated an emergency response for severe weather.
Specialized inspection teams were formed to conduct a thorough check of key equipment within their jurisdiction — including line channels, utility pole foundations, and transformers.
Emphasis was placed on inspecting components prone to discharge in foggy conditions, such as insulators and lightning arresters.
Drainage pipes around substations were cleared and entrances to cable trenches in low-lying areas were sealed and protected to ensure that hazards were identified and eliminated promptly.
In areas with concentrated agricultural greenhouses, staff carried out a "dragnet-style" inspection — helping farmers to reinforce rain-soaked greenhouse films, while providing info on protecting power facilities and electrocution first aid techniques in humid environments.
Through channels such as WeChat groups and village broadcasts, power supply personnel sent electricity usage tips to customers in the area, emphasizing the importance of checking indoor wiring insulation and avoiding proximity to power equipment in waterlogged areas.
These efforts further enhanced public awareness of electrical safety. In addition, the Tashan Power Supply Office of State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company has established a 24-hour emergency response team equipped with insulated bucket trucks, emergency power supplies and other resources.
By integrating intelligent video monitoring systems to track equipment operating status in real time and continuously monitoring weather trends, they're moving to ensure rapid responses and handling of emergencies.
