State Grid Zhenjiang supports zero-carbon transition in mining

State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company is powering the transition to zero-carbon operations at a large cement mining site in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, by supplying clean electricity to a fleet of intelligent electric mining trucks.

On Sept 9, the company introduced an "all-electric mining area service support" model to ensure a reliable power supply for 14 autonomous electric mining trucks. The initiative is expected to reduce diesel consumption by nearly 800 metric tons annually, cut carbon dioxide emissions by over 1,800 metric tons, and save about 3 million yuan ($412,000) in energy costs each year.

Previously, the mining area relied on fuel-powered trucks with high noise levels, emissions, and safety risks. The new electric vehicles can independently perform loading, transport, unloading, and automated charging. Equipped with intelligent routing and obstacle avoidance capabilities, the trucks mark a shift away from the traditional "high-pollution, high-risk" model.

To ensure stable operations, the power company implemented dynamic load monitoring, preventive maintenance, and targeted equipment inspections. Key infrastructure — such as charging piles, 5G base stations, and dispatch center server rooms — receives continuous monitoring to maintain a safe and stable power supply.

Since the rollout of electric vehicles, State Grid Zhenjiang has conducted over 20 power checks and 40 special line inspections, resolving 12 potential safety issues. These efforts provide strong technical support for the mine's goal of becoming a zero-carbon operation.
