Amidst the greenhouses of Xiaoyao village in Weihai's Huancui district, chrysanthemum pots stand in neat rows, their vibrant foliage a testament to the village's thriving agricultural venture.
In the past, the village struggled with economic growth. Recognizing the potential for chrysanthemum cultivation, Wang Yonggang, the Party branch secretary of Xiaoyao village, introduced chrysanthemum seedlings and invited experts to aid in the development of the village's chrysanthemum industry.
Today, the village boasts eight expansive chrysanthemum greenhouses, where chrysanthemums are carefully cultivated alongside seasonal watermelons.
The chrysanthemum industry has proven to be a boon for the village, doubling resident incomes. However, Wang Yonggang's vision extends beyond just chrysanthemums.
Last year, he collaborated with fellow officials to venture beyond the village's borders, seeking expertise to introduce new potato varieties. Wang envisions expanding potato cultivation once the initial crop finds a successful market, anticipating a significant boost in income.
As the year unfolds, Xiaoyao village is becoming home to a vibrant tapestry of agricultural endeavors: July will bring the watermelon harvest, September a bounty of potatoes, and October the splendor of chrysanthemums in full bloom. Xiaoyao village stands as a testament to the transformative power of agricultural innovation and the unwavering dedication of its leaders. (Edited by Yang Yingxue)
