The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Summer Solstice, the 10th solar term of the year, begins on June 21 this year and ends on July 5.
During this period, much of the northern hemisphere experiences its longest daylight hours, although the hottest temperatures typically arrive 20 to 30 days later, often accompanied by sudden rains and intense sunshine.
As lotus flowers bloom in abundance, the landscape becomes adorned with their vibrant colors, making it an ideal time to appreciate the natural beauty of the outdoors.
In Lingcheng district of Dezhou, East China's Shandong province, Summer Solstice marks the end of wheat harvest season, with diligent efforts made to ensure a promising yield.
A cherished tradition in Lingcheng during this time involves eating chilled noodles.
