This year's Grain in Ear, the 9th solar term, begins on June 5 and ends on June 20. It heralds the ripening of crops such as barley and wheat, marking an important phase in agricultural cycles.
The Chinese term for Grain in Ear, mang zhong, is also a play on words for "busy planting", serving as an apt description of farmers' lives during this period. With an increase in temperature, abundant rainfall, and high air humidity, it is the ideal time for planting crops such as late rice and other grains.
In Lingcheng district of Dezhou, East China's Shandong province, wheat fields undergo a stunning transformation into a sea of golden hues. The fields buzz with the steady hum of modern harvesters shuttling back and forth, heralding a bountiful harvest on the horizon.
