May 31 marked the 37th World No Tobacco Day, and this year's theme was "Protecting youth from tobacco." The Binzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (Binzhou ETDZ) in East China's Shandong province launched an event at the Binzhou College of Science and Technology aimed at increasing awareness among young people about the dangers of tobacco, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating a smoke-free campus.
During the event, staff members from the zone's health center and doctors from the Binzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital used vivid examples to explain to students the harmful effects of smoking. They also highlighted the negative effects of smoking on the psychological development of young people, such as declining academic performance and emotional instability.
Additionally, students signed their names on anti-smoking banners, and apart from the awareness display, the Binzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital organized free clinical sessions to provide students with health check-ups and consultations.
Through educational and clinical activities, both teachers and students gained a clearer understanding of the dangers of tobacco and the promotion of smoke-free campuses was strengthened. The initiative aimed to instill a conscious anti-smoking attitude among students and teachers and encourage healthy lifestyles.
In the future, the zone's health center will continue to enhance awareness and education to protect young people from the harms of tobacco, improve monitoring mechanisms, and make greater contributions to tobacco control efforts on campuses. (Edited by Xie Zhenzhen)
