Woodblock tribute to Qing Dynasty luminary unveiled

Wu Anjun, curator of the Zhongwei Painting Exhibition Hall in Hanting district, Weifang, recently unveiled a unique woodblock New Year painting titled "Zheng Banqiao". This captivating artwork offers a glimpse into the life and legacy of Zheng Banqiao, a renowned painter from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), who once served as the magistrate of Weixian county (now the city of Weifang in East China's Shandong province).
During his seven-year tenure, Zheng dedicated himself to helping local residents survive natural disasters such as floods and locust plagues. He earned a reputation as an incorruptible and people-loving official. This woodblock New Year Painting serves as a testament to Zheng's unwavering commitment to justice and the deep admiration he garnered from the populace.
Wu delves into the intricate design elements and symbolism embedded within the painting, offering insights into the artist's creative process. The painting's vibrant colors and dynamic composition capture the essence of Zheng's steadfast integrity.
