The watermelons grown in the 740-mu (49.33-hectare) greenhouses in Xuanzhangtun town, Qihe county, Shandong province recently became ripe and were delivered to Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang province.
The watermelons in the town's Lyuji Huilian Intelligent Agricultural Park are rareripe species 2K and will hit the market in late spring and early summer.
Receiving higher-intensity light by hanging midair, 2K watermelons feature a thinner skin and sweeter flavor than other species.
The high quality is the result of careful and efficient management. Lyuji Huilian has strict requirements for temperature, light, water, and fertilizer and employs professionals to grow the fruit.
This year, Lyuji Huilian adjusted the planting time using greenhouses to make the watermelons available in spring, which has attracted numerous buyers.
The agricultural park is expected to generate 10 million yuan ($1.38 million) from selling 2K watermelons, increase the village collective income by over 150,000 yuan and offer over 120 jobs this year. (Edited by Gong Jun)
