Migratory birds such as herons, wild ducks, and small swans were recently spotted arriving at the Lianghe Sandi Wetland Park in Qingyun county, Shandong province, with some resting on the trees of the island in the center of the lake, some foraging on the grassy shoals along the lake, and others searching for food in the shallow water, making the area a pleasant spring-time destination.
The wetland ecosystem in Qingyun county, including the wetland park, Shuanglong Lake, and Yanwu Reservoir, is an important habitat for migrating birds, attracting a large number of them every year for the purposes of nesting and reproduction.
In recent years, through the establishment of wetland nature reserves and enhanced monitoring and management, the county has formed a natural protection and ecological system centered around the Lianghe Sandi Wetland Park, which is classified as a provincial-level wetland park.
The wetland park has become an ecological wetland tourist destination, integrating ecological restoration, popular science education, and ecotourism. It is rich in biodiversity, with 159 species of vascular plants, including two species of national secondary protected wild plants, as well as 141 species of vertebrates, including 12 species of national secondary protected wild animals.
