Expert guidance boosts spring wheat management in Shandong
In the fields of Caoxian county – located in Heze city in East China's Shandong province – farmers are now actively engaged in early spring tasks such as soil cultivation, fertilization and pest control.
Currently, over 1.54 million mu (102,666 hectares) of wheat are entering the tillering and jointing stages. While most crops show promising growth, challenges such as late planting and adverse weather are affecting some areas, leading to stunted growth and frost damage.
To assist farmers, Caoxian county has deployed a specialized a Spring Wheat Field Management Technology Service Team consisting of 80 experts. Its members conduct on-site technical lectures and provide practical guidance to address the concerns of growers.
Through training sessions and the distribution of information packs, the county aims to equip farmers with the necessary know-how and tools for effective wheat management.
What's more, collaboration with meteorological and emergency management agencies is said to be ensuring the timely dissemination of disaster warnings and practical guidance, enhancing community resilience.
With these efforts in place, Caoxian county is aiming to ensure stable wheat production and a successful summer grain harvest, reinforcing food security. (Edited by Zhou Yunlai)
