Folk dance lovers spark festive cheer in Langya Ancient City
In a buoyant celebration of the Chinese New Year, Langya Ancient City – situated in the Hedong district of Linyi city in East China's Shandong province – recently came alive with the joyful rhythms of yangge, a traditional Chinese folk dance.
Over 1,000 participants gathered to mark the occasion with song and dance, creating a vibrant atmosphere that filled the ancient streets.

Yangge, with its energetic music, rhythmic movements and colorful costumes, has been a cherished part of Chinese culture for centuries. It's a dance that brings communities together during festivals and celebrations, letting folks of all ages and skills levels to join in the fun.
The festivities in Langya Ancient City displayed the very best of Shandong yangge performances, along with national displays like the mesmerizing Longdeng Kangge dance routine. This folk dance, once used to pray for rain, now symbolizes hopes for the nation's prosperity and the happiness of its people.
"Our yangge performances have deep roots in our community's traditions," explained a member of the district's yangge art troupe.
"They're not just entertainment, they're a celebration of our culture and heritage," he added.
With 23 yangge events held to date, the Hedong district has firmly established itself as a hub of festive celebrations during the Spring Festival.
