In the greenhouse seedling shed in Dutang town, Dingtao district, Shandong province, workers are methodically grafting vegetable seedlings, thinning them out, watering, packing and shipping.
"There are a total of over six million seedlings, with a daily output of nearly 300,000 seedlings. An average of over 200 people is currently working every day," said Wang Gaowei, general manager of Shandong Dingshu Seedling Company.
Shandong Dingshu Seedling Company continues to cultivate seedlings and has become more precise in the management, grafting, and cultivation of seedlings.
As a result, the survival rate and quality of the seedlings have improved. In Dingtao district, they have cultivated over 20 varieties of seedlings such as chili, eggplant, and melon, which are sold in over 40 provinces and cities, with an annual output of 150 million seedlings. This has helped increase the incomes of nearly 10 thousand farming households.
"This year, we have introduced three new varieties of melon and one variety of watermelon to bring in more money. We are aiming for this year's seedling output to reach 100 million seedlings, with sales revenue reaching 40 million yuan ($5.56 million)," said Wang. (Edited by Huang Junyao)
