Dong'e county in Shandong province has taken innovative measures to strengthen traffic safety and for local residents.

In response to frequent traffic accidents at intersections of national highways and rural roads, the county has implemented a comprehensive traffic safety management system, creating what is known as the "Dong'e model". This initiative aims to ensure the safety of local residents while traveling.

Moreover, the county is leveraging technological solutions to eliminate potential road hazards, such as installing 1,866 integrated flashing lights with voice prompts, 129 safety sentinels, two curve guardians, and 28 speed advisory signs, which operate around the clock.

The county has also strengthened efforts to promote the use of safety helmets among electric bike and motorcycle riders through targeted educational campaigns, strengthened governance, and assessment supervision. Presently, the helmet-wearing rate in the county's towns and streets sits above 90 percent, the highest in the province. This approach has been widely promoted throughout the province.

To further promote traffic safety, the county has employed some unconventional methods, such as broadcasting messages through rural loudspeakers, painting slogans, hanging banners, conducting grassroots-level safety campaigns, and it is using new media platforms such as WeChat, Weibo, and Douyin to deliver targeted educational campaigns on traffic safety.
