The Hanting district of Weifang city – located in East China's Shandong province – launched a special festive event featuring New Year pictures on Jan 20, to entertain and boost the cultural lives of its residents.
The event will run to Feb 24 and its opening ceremony attracted over 120 representatives – including experts and inheritors from the national intangible cultural heritage field.
The event is being held in response to the 2024 Spring Festival Rural Cultural Tourism Festival program, launched by Shandong province to celebrate the New Year.
Performances at the opening included a dragon dance and a yangko performance and there were demonstrations of spring scrolls writing and overprinting skills for New Year paintings.
There was also a performance of kuaiban – a Chinese traditional talk show recited to the rhythm of bamboo clappers – and other interesting performances.
The event has set up a number of different sections, apart from that used in the launch ceremony. There's an exhibition of high-quality New Year paintings, exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage in communities and a market fair for New Year paintings. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
