Flower market in Shandong prepares for Spring Festival
As preparations reach their climax in the run-up to the upcoming Spring Festival, the flower market in Caoxian county – located in Heze city in East China's Shandong province – is awash with a kaleidoscope of colors.
The fragrant air is permeated with the wafting scent of freshly bloomed flowers, attracting a steady stream of local residents eager to bring home potted plants that not only add vibrancy but also symbolize good fortune.
"We receive new flower varieties almost every day," said Zhang Xiuhua, head of a local flower shop.
"These flowers not only cater to the aesthetic preferences of residents but also contribute to indoor humidity, creating a delightful living environment," Zhang added.

A visit to a flower shed in Changwa village – located in the Zhengzhuang sub-district of the county – reveals picturesque clusters of peonies in various stages of bloom. Each flower, with its unique posture and characteristics, contributes to a jaunty atmosphere which is enhanced by the swirling fragrance.
According to local peony grower Han Maoqin, cultivating these aesthetically pleasing peonies requires dedicated effort, but the rewards – both in terms of visual appeal and income – are noteworthy.
"The peony variety we currently cultivate is immensely popular in the flower market, with prices hovering around 100 yuan ($13.94) for a pot of peonies, consisting of 10 flowers, making them an accessible and cherished local favorite," Han added. (Edited by Zhou Yunlai)
