In Dadong village in Ningjin county – in Dezhou city, in East China's Shandong province – a veteran has built a folk museum with his own money, displaying more than 2,000 old items that reflect the rural life of the past century.
The museum owner, Du Donglian, has a passion for collecting and preserving old things that represent the folk culture of his hometown. He spent 370,000 yuan ($51,626) to renovate an old house and turn it into a museum that is open to everyone for free.
The museum has attracted many visitors, especially young students, who come to learn about the history and culture of the countryside.
The museum has also been recognized as a folk research base and a rural culture revitalization service demonstration point by the local authorities.
Du hopes that his museum can help pass on the folk culture to the next generations and promote rural development. (Edited by Fan Yuanyuan)
