Xin, the village's wickerwork pioneer, utilizes vines and iron frames to craft an array of products, from charming storage baskets to stylish tables and sofas. Her creations, earning her an average daily income of 60 yuan ($8.37), have ignited a creative spark in the community.
Enthusiastic neighbors, inspired by her exquisite craftsmanship, are joining the wickerwork movement. The community has grown to over 100 households, with residents from neighboring villages also embracing this artistic endeavor.
Recognizing the immense potential, village secretary Li Junli spearheaded an expansion of the market. The results were promising, with wickerwork products finding popularity in overseas markets.
In a strategic move, a supplier is set to invest in establishing a factory in the village, capitalizing on its abundant labor force and convenient transportation. Plans are to build 8-meter-high workshops, to provide container shipments for export sales.
Beyond preserving traditional crafts, Xinglongtun village's wickerwork movement is becoming a beacon for cultural rejuvenation – bringing commercial opportunities to its residents and weaving a narrative of success in its rural vitalization. (Edited by Zhou Yunlai)
