Exquisite willow weaving flourishes in Shandong province
In the Hedong district of Linyi city – which is situated in East China's Shandong province – Tanghe town is proudly known as the "Hometown of Chinese Willow Crafts".
It's understood that 80 percent of China's willow craft exports come from Shandong province, with Linyi city contributing 80 percent of that.
The main hub of this industry is situated along the city's Yishu River, spanning four areas: Junan county, Linshu county, Hedong district and Tancheng county. Tanghe town, in particular, hosts over 80 percent of the willow weaving industry in Hedong district.
Designated as a provincial intangible cultural heritage endeavor, Tanghe's willow weaving has evolved far beyond traditional flower baskets to encompass large-scale creations and practical household items.
Skilled artisans have ingeniously expanded the applications of this ancient craft, from smaller and simpler products to willow sofas, tables and chairs.
