Gunan Community in Yanggu county, Shandong province has undergone a remarkable transformation into a vibrant and lively neighborhood.
With 37 residential complexes spanning an area of 1.75 square kilometers, the community is home to over 5,800 households and 20,100 residents.
To address the lack of sports facilities in older residential areas, the community Party committee has taken proactive measures. They initiated a campaign, collecting valuable feedback from residents and gathering over 30 suggestions regarding the construction of sports equipment. Through engagement with residents and volunteer service teams, the committee secured funding to install fitness equipment like ping pong tables, significantly improving the well-being of residents.
The establishment of the "Colorful Service Team", composed of Party members, youth teams, and retired military volunteers, has been instrumental in organizing more than 30 cultural and sports activities. Collaborations with local schools and government departments have resulted in events like "Fun Sports Games" and "Intangible Cultural Heritage Paper Cutting", improving the quality of life of residents.
Recognizing the significant elderly population, the community has fostered cultural exchange by organizing calligraphy and painting activities. These initiatives provide a platform for seniors to showcase their talents while igniting an interest in calligraphy among younger generations. Inter-generational activities like the "Hand in Hand" calligraphy event promote Chinese culture and contribute to the creation of a harmonious and civilized community. (Edited by Jiang Ting)
