Yang Benbiao, an ambitious young man from Yangmiao village in Yanggu county, Shandong province, has found success in an unconventional field—medicinal leech farming.

Despite the general aversion towards leeches, Yang saw their potential as a means to achieve his entrepreneurial dreams. He focused on raising wide-bodied golden-edged leeches, known for their medicinal properties and preference for snails. These leeches have proven effective in treating cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

Yang, who previously worked as a welder, faced health issues due to the strenuous nature of his job. Zang Wenxia, the Party Secretary of Yangmiao village, encouraged Yang to return home and become an entrepreneur. With the support of the Party branch, Yang established his leech specialty farm in March, 2023.

Through extensive research and guidance from local government, Yang constructed eight leech breeding ponds. Yang's dedication paid off, as his leeches thrived under his meticulous care.

Zang praised Yang's determination and highlighted the village's efforts to support young entrepreneurs returning to their hometowns. The Party branch remains committed to overcoming any challenges faced by these individuals, aiming to bolster the talent pool for rural vitalization. (Edited by Jiang Ting)
