In this video, a traditional inheritor of Weifang kite-making in East China's Shandong province, Guo Hongli, shows how to make a shayan or swallow kite while using Peking Opera facial makeup. It's an exercise that shows the charms of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
The entire fabricating process includes drawing blueprints, chopping bamboo, making skeletons, and designing patterns, among other things.
The shayan kite is made up of only five bamboo strips in the main frame and it has an excellent flying performance, as well as a spacious design. Indeed, it's often presented as a national gift to visiting foreign envoys. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
