Wucheng county – located in Dezhou city, in East China's Shandong province – is well known for its wonderful woven carpets, having adopted an 8-shaped knot technique to make them especially thick and sturdy.
The handmade woven carpets from Wucheng use cotton thread and pure wool thread to form the special knot. This exceptional technique has been recognized as a representative item of intangible cultural heritage in Dezhou city.
The meticulous and time-consuming skill means an experienced craftsman can only weave about 15 square meters of carpets in one year.
