Daliutuan village – in the Hanting district of Weifang city, in East China's Shandong province – is adjacent to Bailang River to the east and Yuwang Wetland to the north, and it contains a rich source of materials for weaving.
An official intangible cultural heritage item, willow weaving is thriving in the village. A typical example undergoes more than 10 processes – including grass selection, drying and the weaving itself.
Song Qingmei from Weifang Hongyi Arts and Crafts Co Ltd, a resident company in Hanting, said that her family had engaged in willow weaving for decades.
She added that the products made by her company are adored by foreign clients and her firm distributes orders to local farmers to help increase their incomes. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
