Revitalizing historical resident block in Shandong's district
To preserve urban memories and cultural heritage, Weicheng district, Weifang, has launched a restoration project to protect Songyuanzi Residential Quarter.
The project, entering its final construction phase, focuses on restoring 12 courtyards and 39 buildings, which spans 6,237 square meters. The historical charm of Weifang is expected to be fully released after the completion of the project.

The quarter, a traditional local dwelling from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), boasts a well-preserved courtyard layout and deep historical roots. The ongoing restoration is divided into two phases, with the second phase strengthening fundamental infrastructure and surrounding roads.
This project aligns with Weicheng district's exploration of sustainable preservation models, employing market-driven strategies to unlock the value of ancient residences. By seamlessly blending traditional aesthetics with modern elements, the project breathes new life into these historical structures.
The district's planning extends beyond preservation, envisioning the area as a commercial-oriented street with popularity. Emphasizing the development of traditional brands, folk culture, and intangible heritage, the project aims to create a vibrant space for commerce, dining, and cultural impression, thus propelling the local cultural tourism industry.

In essence, the restoration not only safeguards historical roots but also fosters a dynamic intersection of tradition and modernity, poised to become a cultural hotspot and a catalyst for the overall development of cultural tourism in the district. (Edited by Hu Haoshu)
