Small town in Shandong province creates big online presence

Zhangdazhuang town in Ningjin county is the first Taobao town in Dezhou city, located in East China's Shandong province.

Taobao towns or villages are rural places where the local economy focuses in a big way on e-commerce through the online Taobao retail platform. They're said to have contributed in a major way to the rural vitalization and economic development of the country.

Zhangdazhuang town is well known for its solid wood furniture, which makes up 60 percent of the online sales in the north of the Yangtze River.

On Dec 12, the Furniture Industry Park in Zhangdazhuang was busy preparing for the year-end shopping spree. It stocked up on goods, as well as planned promotions and created a festive online atmosphere. The Green Energy Sharing Industrial Park in the town also took advantage of the e-commerce boom. It sold its wood products to various destinations across the country, using both online and offline channels. (Edited by Fan Yuanyuan)
