Tomato-themed tourist destination boosts rural income
Xingsheng village in Feixian county, Linyi city, Shandong province has developed its tourism industry based on tomato planting. The village focuses on providing visitors with immersive rural experiences that help boost the incomes of locals.
Huyang town, in which Xingsheng village is located, has taken steps to improve the environment of rural areas. The development strategy integrates creative agriculture, leisure tourism, rural study tours, and homestays and catering services.
The tourism experience in Xingsheng village revolves around the tomato and involves turning villages into distinctive areas for experiencing rural customs.
In the construction project demonstration area for rural areas in Huyang town, there are 10 administrative villages with a population of 29,000 people. These villages account for 50 percent and 60 percent of the town's area and population, respectively.
The project has received 230 million yuan ($32.28 million) in investments from various sources, including the government, industry and social capital. It encompasses 40 projects across six major categories, including industrial development, infrastructure and environmental improvement. (Edited by He Yuge)
