We are now in Frost's Descent, the 18th solar term of the year which began on Oct 24 and will end on Nov 7, and the hawthorn trees in Jizishan village of Sitou town, Linqu county, East China's Shandong province, are covered with ripe red fruits.

The villagers are busy harvesting and sorting the hawthorns, which are known for their tantalizing combination of sourness and sweetness and used to make products such as jams, candies, and drinks.

The county has implemented the "one village, one product" strategy to promote the cultivation of local specialties such as hawthorns, and this helped increase the incomes of rural residents and vitalize the countryside. (Edited by Fan Yuanyuan)
