Heze district celebrates traditional Chinese festival
The Luxi New District of Heze city – located in East China's Shandong province – recently demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving traditional folk culture through a series of activities during an annual Chinese festival it staged.
The Chongyang Festival takes place on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese lunar calendar and it's traditionally a day to honor and respect the elderly.
One of the highlights of the festivities was the Chrysanthemum Festival Arts and Culture Show held at the Lyuling Township Elderly Home.
The event featured 10 different performances – including songs, dances and operas – providing senior citizens with a delightful audio-visual experience.
Volunteers also visited the home to offer free haircuts – a service known as "voluntary cutting" – demonstrating their love and support for the elderly.
Wanfu Street also participated in the celebrations by organizing various activities to greet and wish the elderly a happy holiday.
Volunteers introduced traditional folklore associated with the Chongyang Festival, creating a festive atmosphere and fostering a greater appreciation for the older inhabitants in the community.
The Dianhutun Street Office took a different approach by organizing an "opera into the community" event. This involved live performances of operas, songs and dramas – bringing laughter and happiness to the old folks.
Lastly, Yue Cheng Street hosted a new era of civilized practice activities, featuring performances by renowned national-level actor Liu Ruilian.
The performances included excerpts from the popular opera the Queen of the Pendant. The event was warmly received by the audience, to great applause. (Edited by Jin Yongxue)
