A group of students in Dongkou town, Juancheng county – located in Heze city, in East China's Shandong province – learned the traditional art of paper cutting at a local intangible cultural heritage studio recently.
The activity was organized by the New Era Civilization Practice Station in Dongkou town, which aims to promote folk culture and enrich the lives of rural children.
Paper cutting is one of the oldest and most distinctive forms of Chinese folk art. It reflects the rich and diverse history and culture of the country and is widely used for decoration, celebration and worship.
Wen Renhuan, a volunteer with the county's new era civilization practice service team, gave a lecture on the origins and development of paper cutting.
The students were fascinated by the exquisite and vivid paper cuttings and tried their hand at making their own works under Wen's guidance.
"This activity not only improved the children's practical skills, but also helped them appreciate the beauty and charm of the paper-cutting art and aroused their interest in Chinese traditional culture," Wen said.
Juancheng county has been carrying out various themed practice activities since the start of the year, benefiting 13,600 rural children. (Edited by Fan Yuanyuan)
