President Hu inspects Xinjiang (Part 2 of 6)

In Urumqi, Hu Jintao met with local officials, representatives from religious and ethnic groups, and individuals dedicated to social stability.

Ten representatives spoke in the meeting. Hamit Ahmat, an 81-year-old Uygur man, helped save 18 people from rioters during the July 5th riots, and Abudureqip Tumuniyaz, Vice Dean of the Xinjiang Islamic Scripture Academy, also sheltered 15 civilians during the riot. Wu Mingzhu is an academic from the China Academy of Engineering Sciences who spent 50 years studying hami melon breeding in Xinjiang. All condemned the atrocities of the separatists and expressed their determination to safeguard social stability.

Hu called on all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to voluntarily shoulder the social responsibility, support the government efforts to maintain stability and ethnic unity, and take good care of ethnic unity.
