Anti-terrorism efforts remain a clear priority for the Ministry of State for Security (MSS), which has uncovered five terrorism plots for attacks on Xinjiang civilians, since the July 5 riot in Urumqi.

MSS seized a batch of guns, cutters, explosive substances and terrorist publications promoting violence from east Turkistan terrorist groups – based in Xinjiang and abroad - which have been planning attacks on Xinjiang since July 5.

The separatist World Uyghur Congress led by Rebiya Kadeer was behind the deadly July 5 Xinjiang riot, in which 197 civilians died and more than 1000 were injured. Rebiya Kadeer, who used to be a businesswoman and was elected in 2006 to be the chairwoman of the Congress, has now escaped to abroad with a heinous crime committed on Chinese people.
