The taste of northern China
As a versatile painter, Liu Zhaoping is adept at portraying landscapes, figures, flowers and birds. With a strong taste of northern Chinese and traditional ink painting techniques, he has created a number of excellent works, displayed in both national and international art exhibitions. Liu was born in 1950 in Qingdao City and later guided by Fang Jizhong, a representative painter of the Chang'an School. Liu went on to lay a solid foundation in Chinese painting and calligraphy. He has wide interests but prefers such art forms as ink painting, fan pictures and book illustration. In 1985, he became a member of the Chinese Artists Association and in 1987 was promoted to president of the Hohhot Painting and Calligraphy Institute where he successfully held a one-man show at the Inner Mongolia Art Museum. He is now executive vice-chairman of the China Culture Administration Society under the Ministry of Culture, where he organizes large-scale events in order to promote cultural exchange betwe
