Rain Room, a large-scale interactive art installation, launched its Asian premiere at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai today.

The art exhibit is comprised of an entire 150-square-meter room that visitors can walk through and get the sensation of being in the midst of a downpour. The rain immediately ceases wherever a person walks by means of a high-tech induction device on the ceiling, so people will not get wet in the rain. The water used in Rain Room is recycled ordinary tap water and cleans itself.

Crafted by the art collective Random International, Rain Room made a splash at the Barbican Centre in London in 2012 and Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2013. After its appearance in Shanghai, Rain Room will tour China and Asia, starting with Beijing next spring.
