A taxi company in Beijing was on Thursday asked to pay 770,000 yuan ($126,760) in compensation, after one of its employees raped and killed a female passenger 15 months ago.

In October 2012, the victim surnamed Sang, 22, took a taxi operated by Beijing Wanfang Taxi Company from the Workers Stadium to Yayuncun, both in Chaoyang district, but was threatened by the driver, according to the Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Court.

The driver, Chen Yun, took the woman to his rented house in Miyun county of Beijing and murdered her after rape, the court said, adding the man had been sentenced to death in October.

Sang’s parents sued the taxi company, asking for compensation of 1.04 million yuan, after the convict was awarded his punishment, the authorities said.

In its verdict, the court ordered the taxi company pay 770,000 yuan to the couple.
