Chen Guangbiao, a Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist, decorated a temporary television studio in Nanjing with 16 metric tons of 100-yuan notes on the night of Dec 24 to promote the upcoming national economic census, China News Services reported.

The cash was transported to the studio in the provincial capital of Jiangsu province in a large truck and it took 20 people five hours to decorate the tent-turned-TV-studio with the cash, according to the report.

Chen said the economic census will offer data to promote scientific development of the economy and his action can attract attention from the public while saving much newspaper space otherwise used to advertise it.

Less newspaper space means the use of less paper, which is eco-friendly, Chen said.

The nationwide economic census will start on Jan 1.

Chen also said he welcomes investigation of his business.

Chen has used money as a background for his charitable promotions since 2010.

"This is the sixth time for me to use money as background," he said, "The amount of money is the largest this time and it will also be the last time."
